My heart ached for her, and I felt compelled to leave a positive comment, hoping it might offer her some comfort. In that moment, I couldn’t help but ask myself, “Why are we so harsh toward one another?
Why do we go out of our way to tear each other down?”
Many people internalize the negative comments they receive. A simple insult can evolve into an internal narrative of “I’m not good enough,” “I’m unworthy,” or “Nobody cares about me.”
When these thoughts take root, they can lead to a spiral of depressive feelings that are hard to shake.

I’m not bashing social media because I use it mindfully, but I just want you to be aware and watchful of its impact on your mental health.
Even the seemingly endless comparisons—looking at the likes and comments others receive versus your own—can foster feelings of inadequacy.
When we place our value in the hands of strangers online, we risk our mental health every time we log in. It’s important to remember that social media doesn’t always reflect reality.
What we see online is often curated, highlighting only the best moments while hiding the struggles that everyone faces.
So, how do you protect yourself from this emotional rollercoaster? Here are some more impactful strategies to help you manage the emotional toll of social media comments:
1. Reclaim Your Narrative
Instead of allowing others to define who you are through their comments, take charge of your own story. Write down affirmations that reflect your true worth and values, reminding yourself that no online comment can define your identity.
